Anaheim General Hospital is still in jeopardy of losing millions of dollars in federal funding and has until Nov. 15 to demonstrate how it is fixing problems in eight areas.
Earlier, the 143-bed hospital was given an August deadline to solve an array of patient safety problems or lose the Medicare funding that provides the bulk of its revenue. In February, health inspectors found dirty medical equipment, medicines stored at improper temperatures and not enough nursing staff in some departments. Read that story here.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services today released a letter informing the hospital, which is owned by Pacific Health, that it is still out of compliance based on a re-inspection in July. The letter says those areas include: patient rights, nursing services, food and dietary services and infection control. The inspection report, with specific details, will not become publically available until later this month.
The letter also says the Medicare termination deadline has been moved to Jan. 31 to give the hospital time to make fixes. Medicare officials say the vast majority of hospitals don’t lose their funding because they correct the problems.
Pacific Health chief executive James Young said in an August interview that all the deficiencies had been fixed and the hospital had hired more staff and consultants.

Great! I live down the street from this place! Guess I’ll chance the extra time and have them send me to Los Alamitos!
Good! I had my second child at this hospital and it was the worst experience I have ever had. This hospital is the worst ever. They should close it down!!
I worked for OB/GYN that delivered at this hospital and never in my life would i go to this hospital. Anaheim General nurses barely speak any English and the hospital is dirty. i would rather travel the extra minutes if my life depended on it for the better care at another hospital.
As an ER nurse I would never allow myself nor any of my family members to be treated at Anaheim General. Most of the people in the area are treated at West Anaheim Medical Center a far better facility with top notch nurses! And its only 2 blocks away…come on down.
This is very disheartening. I delivered both my daughters (1977 and 1980) there when the hospital was owned by AMI. I loved the small hospital environment, the dedicated OB nurses and the cleanliness! You literally could have eaten off the floors!! I was also a volunteer labor coach there for 7 years and the hospital’s childbirth instructor for almost 12 years. Shame on Pacific Health for turning what was once a wonderful patient-care oriented community hospital into a community disgrace!
it smells like tacos in there.. and shame.. tacos and shame
Anaheim General Hospital - sounds like a Ford Pinto - generic, lousy, and dangerous to use.
[...] Anaheim General Hospital still out of federal compliance [...]
years ago the they predicted the failure of these small community hospitals. It was stated that it would be more effective if large regional hospitals were to thrive. On the other hand failure on the eight areas and the withdrawl of funding might save face than to declare bankruptcy
It is very sad what is going on at AGH. I love that hospital but bad upper management and greed have killed that poor hospital. For the most part the nurses and doctors are very loyal and caring. I hate seeing what Pacific Health’s upper management and corporate has done to AGH. May Dr. Wofel haunt them for all their greed and dishonesty.
