Traditional restaurants and cafes aren’t the only dining establishments inspected by the Orange County Health Care Agency.
Gas station convenience markets also are routinely inspected if they serve up hot coffee, fountain drinks and unpackaged snacks such as warm hot dogs.
In a review of health department closures during the past 60 days, three gas stations were cited for health violations. Here’s a look at what they were:
- La Palma Chevron, 7990 Valley View Street in Buena Park: Cited May 6 for unsanitary conditions, including grime and/or dust in the ice chute of the soda machine, the lid of the coffee urn and the area surrounding coffee nozzles. The next day, the health department revoked the gas station’s permit to sell non-packaged food because there was not sufficient hot water. The following day, on May 8, the problems were corrected and the gas station’s permits were reinstated.
- Joes Arco AM PM, 1000 W. Valencia Drive in Fullerton: Health inspectors on June 9 followed up on a consumer complaint about rat droppings near the soda machine and coffee area and found droppings throughout the facility, including near those machines, as well as above and below the ice machine. The department revoked the convenience store’s permit until the following day, when a reinspection found that the droppings had been removed.
- Seal Beach Chevron, 4000 Lampson Ave. in Seal Beach: Cited for operating without a valid permit on May 20. After a health inspection nine days later, the permit was reinstated.

A few weeks ago, on the way home after a late night we stopped for gas. I had the best hot dog ever! Now I wish I could remember where we were. I would hate to think it is one of these places.
No exit, the extra special ingredients made that dog the best ever!
so next time I see a drunk @ 2:20 am driving w/ a fist full if hot dog, Ill think of you. Thanks for the wonderfull image.
LOL!! But yeah can’t complain. The food at gas stations isn’t that bad!
They should go to Santa Ana. I think Rat is on the menu.
Well I don’t know about the rest of you….but I usually go to Gas Stations to get……gas. I try to pass up the ‘tasty’ and always ‘fresh’ fare that has been baking under the lights for lets say at least 3 - 9 hours. And of course it’s the first place I go to purchase my un-sealed beverages and other package goods. I especially enjoy stopping and picking up oh 10 -15 Hot Dogs with ALL the Fix’ns and arriving home to the hungry hoards….
Are you kidding me! Ever actually look at works behind the counter of these places???!!!??? The Counter Guy is either 4 hours out of the ‘Trunk’ of the Coyotes car or just off the bus from Cochran State Prison, to start serving their Parole sentence. In all these places I pay cash, get a reciept, pump my gas and get the He!! out of there as fast as I can! Like I or even more frieghtening, my family is going to eat or drink anything out of one of these scum-holes.
I know. I wish they were all white teenagers working there like the old days. Darn foreigners.
I miss the days when yorba linda really was the “land of racist living”.
dude, you made my drink come out through my nose! that was so hilarious! thanks to you I got pepsi all over my blouse!
omg, lmao!! I can’t tell you guys how many “fresh, hot” cheeseburgers I’ve eaten from Ampm. Seriously, why are the buns are always hard!
ooooh. sorrrrrry imacobru. i guess everybody is not such a high-class snob like you. i didn’t know we had to be such lowlives to grab a snack at a gas station.
JB - GAS STATION says it ALL - GAS STATION, No high class snob…just someone who prefers to purchase food & drink from a place not with the primary point of sale featuring - PRETROLEUM PRODUCTS!
Something about mixing petroleum and unpackaged food bothers me.
And Imacobru - When was the last time you had MD’s, Taco Bell, etc.? What can you enlighten us about this subject?
MD’s, Taco Bell, or other fast food’s - Since I am well versed in the Health Code issues with fast food facilities and sit down restaurants, and know what to look for on the Public side of the facility. There are few places like that, that I would go to. First place to look to see the condition of the entire facility is the Restrooms, than the floors under the stationary booths, especially the corners. Oh and on the way inside or in the car…look at the exterior. If the restrooms are un-clear or smelly, if the floor areas under the booths are un-swept or grimmy and the exterior of the facility is ‘un-policed’, I would not give them any of my business, nor would I suggest you do so as well. There is stuff you can pick up from surfaces and unsafe food handeling that you can’t get rid of without some real powerful antibotics and a possible stay in the hospital. Some stuff out there can even kill you. Bona-petite!
Thanks for the picture imacobru. I just hurled my AM/PM hot dog.
Good for you! At least you got it up and out before any real damage could occur. There, no don’t you feel better?
dude, I just had Subways on La Palma & Kraemer inside the Shell station, I think I am going to puke now! I’m already feeling nauseous!
As far as I’m concerned, anyone who eats at a gas station, a fast food restaurant or a *family* restaurant which caters to children, gets what they deserve.
Not only do they get what they deserve voxrex but they have no one to blame but themselves.
Wow… next thing you know this will be happening at Anaheim Stadium….. WHOOPS!
Nevermind!
so u are trying to tell me those WEREN’T chocolate chips??!
And they were not not large Pepper Corns either…. Oh well the FDA allows 10% mammallian fecal matter in restaurant packaged Raw Pepper Corns. Just remember that the next time the ‘Peppie’ comes by your table and want to to add a little ground pepper to your salad… Oh boy!, three turns for me!…no make that four I’m lacking in Uric Acid!
Some of the best food can be found at gas stations. Yummmy!
Competitors snitching on their adversaries? No matter how clean restaurants/ fat food/ convienience, try to be with all the people going in and out and food moving around there are likely to be bugs etc. Respectable ones just keep theirs a lot cleaner and have traps. I repaired POS terminals and timers for many and no matter how clean it appeared (some were even so proud they would give me a tour) something got by.
Hey, a little rat crap never hurt anyone has it?
Pardon me, I just barfed in my mouth.
what a shame.
Well is not surprising…mayority of those franchises are own by Asians/Arabs?Mexicans etc. Plus the Deregulations/Corruption in local goverments.
And those guys are comming from the toilets of the world…If I’m a racist? You bet I am, so what!!
The Multiculture are bringing the country down
Oh no waaayyy! Gas station food not healthy due to cleanliness. WOW. That is headline news.
dude, i’m going home sick now! I am so nauseous!
we all know the attendants pick their nose and scratch their ass while preparing the food, yeah, they probably sneeze and cough on it too.
oh and I guess that doesn’t happen at OG,Claim Jumper or Red Lobster?
This is seriously so disgusting! My parents used to treat us to AM/PM food couple times a week for dinner. Their rib sandwiches were soo good! But my mom was always sickened by the ice cream topping area. The fact that the toppings were just open and free for who knows what to fly in was just enough to say no thanks! Aside from stale tasting bread on the burgers, the food isn’t that bad. A couple of things make me sick about convieniece stores though. 1. A freind that used to work at a gas station told me that they almost NEVER clean out the fountain drink dispensers. Wonder why fountain drinks are so cheap! 2. The fact that there were rat droppings,ewww. Rats drop while they are eating so those had to be fresh. And if they usually sweep the outside of the station, wouldn’t they sweep just as well inside. How could they miss them?
